These terms of use apply to data provided through the Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI) Data Center. Link: Data Center
Respondent Confidentiality:
In preparing datasets for public distribution, SESRI takes precautionary measures to ensure that individual respondents cannot be directly identified in a dataset. These measures may include deleting telephone numbers, addresses, names, and any other information that could reasonably lead to the direct identification of a respondent.
Although initiatives have been taken to remove all items that may compromise respondent confidentiality, users are responsible for protecting the privacy and confidentiality of respondents. If users discover the identity of any individual or organization, they may not use or deliver the information to any third party and shall report such identifiable information to the SESRI Archive Manager immediately.
As responsible data users, investigators must agree to the following;
1. Use these datasets solely to generate only statistical summary information that does not permit the identification, either directly or inferentially, of any individual person, family, or household. Cell sizes, marginal data, and strata must be of sufficient size to avoid disclosure.
2. Make no use of or disclose to any third party the identity of any individual or organization they may have discovered, intentionally or unintentionally, from dataset information.
3. Exclude from any type of publication or presentation the listing and description of individual cases, as well as data or quotations from individual cases.
4. Not create links to any other datasets that could reasonably be used to identify individuals.
5. The data shall be treated as a finished product - it may be used as a foundation for further work, but no reverse engineering or "upstream research" into the sources of the data itself will be permitted.
6. All Users shall submit to SESRI copies of all publications that make use of SESRI data files.
7. Any publication that makes use of the data must acknowledge SESRI, and its funders, as appropriate, as the source of the data. This includes; articles, books, conference papers, theses, dissertations, reports or other publications employing data obtained from the data center will cite the source, in line with the citation requirement provided with the particular data file.
8. The Social and Economic Survey Research Institute as the original collector of the data, the data center, and the related funding agencies bear no responsibility for any use of the data or for interpretations or inferences based upon such uses.
